A surprise of a movie from way back when: a time of bell-bottom jeans, afros, and funk sharing a deadly little secret. There was a lot more thought put into this story then I at first glance would have thought (I kind of figured I was getting into a generic sea critter turned monster flick), and it would no doubt still be right at home on a giant wooden drive-in backdrop. I'm going to need and use some spoiler blocks through this to not spoil the fun little twists in the film though, so just be prepared to actually have to read parts of this if you want the free spoiled-version of the opinion.

I may be a young adult male, but there's still something to be said of the charm of family-oriented movies. From the get-go, Journey 2 lets you know that it aims to please in what one expects of a family film - a whimsical plot filled with imaginative visuals and eccentric characters, as well as the deep touching undercurrents of topics that some younger folks may not get. It rather much delivers on its promise to deliver as well, even if as I sit and watch it, I can't help but feel that the flick was oriented towards a 3-D experience over the simple 2-D plane I was watching it on.

Clint Eastwood, a pretty girl, country music, fistfights, and an orangutan. If any of these things sound like they are up your alley, then you have got to catch this movie. Built for a generation of filmgoers who cared more about having a good time and enjoying themselves then those looking for spot-on realism and super-gritty takes on the world, this movie delivers every bit as much nonsense as it infers on the cover. All the crew from the original is back in town for this sequel. The nice part about this is there are a lot of familiar faces, and characters that we get to see some new tidbits about. Will the road runner (Bandit) escape that devoted coyote (Justice) yet again, or will the law finally have it's day? Either way, it ought to be a real hoot.

The 80's are home to some of the most entertaining movies ever made. You can try to prove me wrong here, but if those movies weren't as good as I claim, why does the current generation of filmmakers find the incessant urge to "remake" said films? A glorious time when action movies were filled with cheesy one liners, explosions, and macho men and yet still friendly enough that the entire family could tune in and watch. If you have ever been a fan of the original Three Stooges, this modern take on them is about the best you could ask for. While keeping in the spirit of the olden slapstick eye-poking, head-whacking, foot stomping shenanigans of the originals with probably a few moments of "the modern cinema" slipping in there as well, it easily entertains throughout. Being a comedy, it's generally watchable by the entire family as well, with the exception of a lion being hit in the no-nos by a peanut (still, nothing exceptionally detailed) that shouldn't be much of an issue.

I am pretty sure that everyone knows who Mr. Bean is, but if you aren't familiar with him then it would be lost on you if I compared him to Mr. Magoo, as that's even older than Bean. As I was in a rather lighthearted mood and I did promise I would do something not scary for a change, I dug this one out of the seas of videos and thought we could all use a good movie to watch, and silly comedies is one of the fine line of movies that everyone can enjoy without anyone being left out of all the jokes (whereas some movies like Shrek contain jokes for the parents in a way that goes over the young ones heads). There's one type of movie that over the years has slowly turned into a different breed from itself, and that's the horror genre. What used to be more psychological or general trickery of the mind to imply horror slowly turned into "whore"er movies where there happens to be more T'n'A then there is actual credible scares (such as most slasher flicks). Of all the monsters out there in the cryptozoological department, the vampire has been far hit the hardest by the modern-day glam machine, going from a tragic blood thirsty creature to a sparkling pretty-boy elven equivalent in the dead-man market, and so it's not surprising that when I want to watch a vampire flick I draw from an older stash.
