Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Spider-man's home.
- Humorous.
- CG work.
- Side characters don't feel entirely like filler.
- Interactions between AI and Parker.
- Spider-man scenes (ie. the action scenes) are pretty pleasant to watch and easy to follow.
- Doesn't needlessly retread the origin story.
- Usage of that other Flock of Seagulls song.
- Not all the jokes are that great a payoff - maybe a chuckle instead of full on belly laugh.
- There's a lot of spider-man taking off his mask for whatever reason.
- Never really cared for the whole High school dynamics in pretty much any movie.
This is a pretty darn good movie. It's not going to usurp Ant-man as my current favorite, but might find it's place at home behind the Guardians movies in spot 3. It has that whimsical vibe while still telling it's not-entirely joke story. It feels more attuned to the MCU thanks to it's higher propensity of bringing in Iron Man throughout the flick (although still feeling more like it's Spider-man's story than Civil War felt to be Captain America's). The scale also feels largely toned down from some of the more grand threats of other movies - which feels very fitting of friendly neighborhood web-slinger. Although I don't recall if they used it frequently (as in outside of the opening credits), I also feel like this is the closest we get to actually hearing something more recognizable and individual as a "theme song" in the MCU.
