The queue provides happiness in a life of plastic, it’s fantastic! Alright, joke that’s more in line with a Barbie tagline than a Lego tag line aside, this is what’s up in the list tonight. The first was fun, I assumed the second would be more of the same - if perhaps a little less due to potential lack of originality in the sense that the idea isn’t as new after the first one. If nothing else, I expect at least some form of entertainment out of it, so lets find out if everything is still awesome with a title so long I’m not going to bother saying it all: The Lego Movie 2.

What’s October without zombies? Some would argue better off, but I’m fine with it. This is one of those trailers that popped up in the theaters and I went “this looks like something that has the potential to be enjoyably dumb or perhaps just dumb.” Yep, that’s all it takes sometimes. Opening credits tells me there’s more names in it than I thought I’d recognize too - wonder if the collection of older actors will be livened up by their roles or if the zombies will take home the gold. Honestly, it’s always amazing to me to see some of these people pop in movies - yeah, my grasp of time is about as bad as my memory, so they never really seem like they are that old to me until I see them and realize they were in movies when I was still young. Guess the title doesn’t lie after all, sometimes The Dead Don’t Die.

The staggering length of the desired DVD drought continues, and we once again get to be surprised at what shows up in the mail. Tonight is a more serious note - one based on a true story, complete with an actual picture of the person of whom the story is based on as if to say “yeah, we know anyone can use that label, but we actually did find a real story to make visually impressive.” The lead of the trailers is somebody that I’ve grown to expect to be able to do justice to a wide range of rolls, and the trailers showed me that there’s a mix of good old human darkness to this seemingly whimsical world of dolls - but the question remains if it’s drama will be entertaining or just straight up depressing. Find yourself a nice pair of heels and go save a milkmaid, it’s time to look at Welcome To Marwen.

I saw a poster for this when I went to the theater once. What a novel concept I thought - like seeing some bizarre flavor of candy on a shelf. Then a trailer came on at a different movie, and I went from passing acknowledgement to interested. Fast forward to the present, when my movie queue is still battling with getting me the movies that are supposed to get here, and this little fella decides to show up all strutting it’s stuff like “remember me?” Let’s see if this family flick can entertain me in the grand old ways and tap into that inner Arthurian kid, tonight we look at The Kid Who Would be King.

A change of pace is what I do best - or at least, I’d like to claim that but I really tend to just get stuck in one genre for a while and dwell there. Hey, nobody is perfect - sometimes your a broken witch or a lame warlock. Sometimes your an idiot kid trying to make friends by reanimating corpses you probably shouldn’t have reanimated. The chimes are counting down, but it’s the end of the movie that will tell for better or worse: on tonight’s docket is The House with a Clock in Its Walls.

Never played most of the Tomb Raider games, if I’m going to be honest. I know of them, know a bunch about the character - enough that it always annoyed me when people complained about this fem-powered imaginary person being nothing more than a sex object - and even watched the older movies from it. Yeah, you know, the ones with Jolie in them? Man, did she look the part and get that nice level of sass - and for a person like me who enjoys cheesy flicks, I was more then entertained. Then came the reboot years, and I kept telling myself “you should buy that game when it goes on sale” - newsflash, I still haven’t. I did, however, get around ot watching the movie. Tonight, you find out that it was exactly this long until I realized there was an arrow in the title, let’s talk Tomb Raider.

I’ll be real, there isn’t any real logic to the choice of movie this week. Originally I had some wacky Nicolas Cage movie planned, but it didn’t arrive on schedule so I had to find a replacement - and after last week was so full of lengthy movies, I though something short and hopefully sweet would do the trick. Well, it has Halloween in the title, and that means lots of candy - and candy is sweet. It’s only about an hour and a half long, so by movie standards that’s short. Boom, check it friends, now it’s just a matter of it it can retain any of the fun of it’s precursor or if it makes us feel like a dummy for watching it. Shiver and laugh, it’s time to talk about Goosebumps 2.

Ah, the half man who talks to fish that I have never cared about - which is honestly something I can say for a lot of superheros in all honesty. Oddly enough, this one I heard nothing but good things about - which struck me as odd, because the trailer told me this was gonna be a CG fest, and some of these good tidings were coming from people that usually crap on CG. Although rave reviews for something that one would have expected to sink like a rock are pretty impressive, the lightness of my wallet always keeps my movie-going attention in the aftermarket deals. Now that the fish is swimming in the ocean of cheaper costs, it’s about time the tide comes in for my viewership so I can find out how much I hate myself for deciding to watch a two and a half hour long superhero movie the weekend before I go and watch and even longer super hero movie. Splish splash I was watching an Aquaman.

So, this movie is a spur of the moment. The day of reviewing this is Valentines Day, and although I’m sure the originally slated movie would have worked fine, it isn’t every day that movie night falls on the same day as a holiday. Of course, of all holidays this is one that I’ve got probably the least motivation to watch the main themed movies - I just don’t dig straight romance movies. The only one that would come to mind that I’d willfully re-subject myself to is in fact The Princess Bride, but that’s already been done on here - so instead, I find another movie that has some romance at it’s core, but that despite all logic I still haven’t gotten to on here. Tonight, we get to see if a big, red, spooky devil Tim Curry is all horns and no evil - tonight, we watch Legend.

Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

Solo is a movie I had no real interest in. It’s not that I had the thought of it being a terrible or boring movie, I just had no interest in the backstory of a character that worked fine as it is. It’s because of that I never bothered to see it until it came out on home video. Of course, by then you get all sorts of reviews in the positive, with a few off-kilter complaints like “the ship is too clean.” Surely, if the best people can complain about is the ship being clean, something must be right about it and eventually I had the hankering for a heist movie, so I thought “why not Solo?” To be honest, I had even intended to try and watch it in 4k, but some technical difficulties that require me to relocate my hardware prevented me from doing such. Apparently, I don’t have quite the luck of the main character - but more so than me, will his movie?

You thought that fantasy kick was super short lived after that military-based movie from last week didn’t you? Ha! You’ve been played, for I’m still on a fantasy kick and all shall suffer my opinions because of it! Alright, perhaps that was a bit more dramatic than necessary, but I did have a slight hankering for a little something that mixes the two. Most people herald the middle-aged Mummy films as the best the old dried up wrapper has to offer and despite the fact that I wouldn’t say I thought the newest entry was as bad as others might think, they don’t have a terrible statement either. What was it that caused those movies to be so enjoyed over the rest, and why is it that the first one I’m doing for the site is the last of that bunch? Maybe it’s just a curse bestowed for raiding the old tombs of movies so much, or maybe it’s because hidden gems of fun? Tonight, we check out The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

It’s been a hot minute since I watched one of these. Heck, to be honest I’m not ever sure I saw the third one, only to figure out that there was a fourth and apparently work on a fifth. Well, perhaps thankfully I’m in a fantasy sort of mood - only time will tell if that’s actually something I should be thankful for. Still, dragons and fire and swords are bound to show up in one way or another, and who doesn’t like listening to Patrick Stewart? Get your lighter’s out, it’s time for a Dragonheart movie.

I’ve made it pretty well known at this point that I’ll give almost any movie that employs Kurt Russel a chance when it comes to viewership - even if it’s not a movie I would otherwise watch. The man can act! Here is one of those cases, and also a return to form from a while back when I really hit heavy the Netflix Originals in reviews. It’s the time for giving and family fun, and despite the sparse amount of snow in the world outside my window lately, that means Christmas is almost upon us - and my tolerance levels of yule joy haven’t much changed. Despite my propensity of avoiding the overly-happy and at times mind-numbing holiday movies that flow from channels like Hallmark like an open wound, Kurt drags me into the cheer regardless of if I want it or not - and all that’s left is to find out if this thing is a present of fun or a ho ho horrible time. Let’s take a look at The Christmas Chronicles.

Another installment of “waitstaff recommends.” Now, I like me monsters of all kinds, and del Toro has given me plenty of those sorts to enjoy over the years I’ve known of him as a creator. One would think that in turn this movie would have already been in my queue before this, but to be frank it largely was marketed as a romance movie from anyone I had heard speak of it review-wise and well, if we couldn’t guess from previous entries, I’m more of a dumb action and cheesy horror kind of person so I had passed it up. Still, when it comes up as a recommendation, who am I to decline? Let’s see if it can live up to it’s praise or if I find something to be fishy, let’s check out The Shape of Water.

Stick around long enough and you'll know or learn that I like those offbeat movie effects. I'm fine with CG, and I enjoy some fine practical, but there's just some weird charm and draw to stop motion movies. The fact that really anyone could do it, but knowing the huge time-barrier and immense amount of effort that goes into them only adds to that draw I imagine. Still, from the trailer I thought this was something to put on my radar, and tonight it's finally come in the mail. Let's find out whose been a good boy.

Constantine (2005)

Do you remember the time before the Marvel menace, when all comic movies were just the worst thing ever? Ha! Trick question, there was no such time! Alright, according to some there was, but quite frankly there's always been good ones and bad ones in my opinion, and largely since I'm just looking to be entertained and judge things on a personal enjoyment level more so than the critical gross profit success that companies really care about, I've enjoyed a comic-themed movie that was released way back in 1981 (which may not have been the actual first one I saw in my lifetime, but is probably one of the oldest ones film chronology wise). In recent years, I've become a bit burnt out on them - not because they are bad movies in any sense, but purely on the saturation of them. Still, I figured that we might as well go back at least a little ways and check out Constantine and see how that one holds up.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight (2018)

I wasn't super impressed with the last animated Batman movie that I checked out. Sure, it wasn't bad and it did have some bat-crap insane segments to it that I could appreciate, but there were moments when the quality just felt like it was subpar and I overall didn't think they really used the setting or concept to it's fullest. Well, of course they decided to make a Batman movie set just about in as old-timey not-London as it could possibly get. Color me interested, and remind your family to look at those MPAA ratings - it's time for the Bat to fight the Jack.

I Kill Giants (2017)

Occasionally you see a title and a trailer and think "well, this could be fun." Honestly, it happens more often than not for me, but in this case I had a few reservations. Of course, nothing that was going to stop me from watching the movie in the slightest - simply an observational wariness based on past experiences. In this movie pitched as a kid versus giants, there would be a statistical lean towards the giants not actually being physically real giants. The most recent film to actually deliver on a premise such as making a monster real in a way that the lead believing in them wasn't just imaginative or crazy I believe for me was Trollhunter, and that was at this point eight years ago. Still, make-believe or not I'm promised a girl fighting giants, and as this disc spins up I'm hoping it's not a case of "the bigger they are."

Tonight's movie didn't exactly pass me by on the movie radar, it just wasn't one that I was super interested in. Fast forward to it being out for home video, and a friend mentions that they thought it was pretty fun. I've watched movies with far less exceptional recommendations, so I figured why not? As far as I know, "inspired by" very well could be the word of the day - but let's see how the house that guns built plays out.

My first reaction when I heard they were making a Jumanji movie after the first was the same as usual - why? It's not that there isn't fun to be had there, but I don't remember the original one being particularly stellar as far as overall reception - and a quick glance at review aggregators like Rotten Tomatoes tells me I'm not remembering that far off. Then later on I heard that it was going to be a sequel and thought "good for them on not needlessly rebooting something." After seeing the trailer I recall the thought of "that could be a fun movie, but I don't think I'll hit it in theaters." After that, it slipped off the radar and I didn't really hear much about it, until a couple of people I know came in with their thoughts on "it was actually a pretty fun movie" - which brings us up to date to now, when those fateful drums be banging and drawing me in.
