Honestly, it’s been sitting there for too long, and now that it’s on a service I don’t have to pay individually for the movie there’s no better time than now to get it before it disappears back into the pay-to-watch land. I’ve been told a lot of things about it -primarily to be ready to be confused. Now, I’ve seen some stuff, so let’s see just how bad it can really be. A new Predator movie comes out this weekend, and I’m excited about it. Unfortunately for my review life, I already have done all those movies - including the crossovers with Alien. Including the newest animated one. Heck, I even did that Mortal Kombat meets Predator with Nic Cage in it, so what I’m saying is I kinda don’t have a whole lot left that i can really directly tie into my excitement for that movie, so I instead opted for soldiers versus aliens, which is going to just have to be close enough alright? Trip down to Cali where the surf just brought in a tied of extraterrestrial foes - this is Battle: Los Angeles.

Science fiction is tonight’s name of the game. Space, future, technology, and oddly enough a lot of the same old problems. This one isn’t really getting super crazy well scored places, and I thing I might have a sneaking suspicion as to part of why that might be. Tonight’s movie is hitting up some science fiction, and I always like me some space action. Props department and effects department are some of my favorite things - if in part because it’s so visual and easily identifiable as imaginative without me needing to have some crazy understanding of it like music, poetry, or body language can be. Now, going off the trailer I admit I don’t have the highest of expectations going in - but that’s usually nothing but a recipe for success when it comes to watching a movie. Get your battle buddies together and prepare to compare it to other great movies you like, tonight we check out Osiris.

I hadn’t planned on so many technical issues tonight, but if ever there was a silver lining it’s that it for once isn’t Spectrum’s fault as much as it is the power company not being able to keep a steady flow of juice flowing through their lines at the measliest inconvenience to one of the lines. Anyways, I’ve done a lot of newer movies lately, and I feel like that’s making me go soft (not really, I just felt like I should do an older movie). I’ve also done a bunch of horror lately because I’ve been getting away with it with a rash of solo watchings (or at least solo start watchings), so I though I’d give a little breath of fresh air to the non horror folks and combine my two targets: older, and not horror focused. What did I find? Space, bad CG, and Mark Hamill. No, not Wing Commander (although that would have been a good choice thinking about it) - a different one. Don’t confuse it with the awesome synth band, tonight we watch Laserhawk.

What won tonight? Sci Fi. From the trailer I’ve got some mixed impressions of part visual feast and part low-budget claustrophobic, which kind of conflicts when you think about it. Another one came out, and like some pocket-size monster I have to collect them all. For a long time I've loved the franchise, watching the movies and playing the games, even going as far as to checking out the books and comics. Yes, admittedly I didn't go through every single one of them, but let it be told that I enjoy the stuff good and bad. When I heard we were getting an animated entry, I immediately thought to myself - well, I never thought about how weird it was this thing didn't show up in an anime with it's subject matter. Turns out, it still hasnt' gotten an anime - but either way we are getting out our muscle jokes and tuning in to Predator: Killer of Killers.

Admittedly, I've always preferred lizard to monkey, but they rather quickly became a set deal in the “verse” - as everything franchising has to contain over here – so it appears either we get both or none. Today begins an experiment, or rather is an excuse for an experiment. The idea of playing with memories is a bit tangential to the overall thought of the experiment, and so tonight’s movie is oddly fitting. I found myself asking a question at one point while watching movies with prequels and remakes, and perhaps through experimentation with a small groups size we can come up with a bit of a working hypothesis. How much are our tastes dependent on which thing - be it original, reboot, or sequel - we see first? Does nostalgia of time play more a role than the actual quality of a movie? Tonight we begin to try and unravel this simple and honestly stupid question, as I try to remember things I forgot. Keep a grasp on reality, tonight we look at the reboot of Total Recall.

I’ve been seeing an absolute ton of headlines just trashing a recent movie lately, so of course I’m automatically interested in it. Since it’s out on Netfilx, it also means there is no barrier to entry for me watching it, since I already have that subscription. Is this thing as bad as it would seem, or is it another case of people experimenting with “negative opinions get more clicks?” I can’t say for sure, because I didn’t click a single one of those headlines - but I sure can check the movie out. I’m exhausted tonight. so I’ve picked a movie that is both low brain power requirements and also set somewhere that looks so much warmer than the crap cold outside. It even ended up starting a franchise - although how good of a thing that is will probably depend on who you ask. The main actor really loved the character if nothing else, so regardless of who else might like it he’s got his own back for sure. It’s a brand new year - is it a brand new you? If you’ve been around enough, you may remember me mentioning that I do some charity streaming and like to theme it - last year was giant robots, on of those things that I love but not everyone sees the draw to, making it kind of hard to find fitting movies. This year, I was going to be running through some of the Mass Effect games - but I could have done the animated movie for that but it’d be a bit on the nose so I decided to do something that’s a little last year and a little this year instead. Let’s combine my constant memory-loss ridden feature of having thought I already did a movie with a science fiction blast that has bad guys that start with an R. Yeah, buckle up space cowboys, tonight we are going back and re-watching (we both know we’ve all seen it plenty) Serenity.

I could pick a nice winter themed movie since it’s winter, but instead I picked something with bugs. Why? Honestly, because I watched it forever ago so in theory it makes the review part a lot quicker to do. Well, that and who knows, maybe it’ snot as bad as I remember it being. Everyone remembers the first movie, some of us have read the book and wondered how the two could end up being so functionally different - and a bunch of us must have watched the second movie because they gave us a third - and movie companies don’t do that if they don’t think they’ll make money. Funny part is, you never hear anyone talking about two or three - so heck with it, tonight we jump back into the front and watch Starship Troopers 2.

Yep, to complete our Pokemon set, we get to delve into the newest flick that dropped just this week - it’s been a good month for releases between this and the newer Beetlejuice movie, if for nothing else but my nostalgia. We got our laughs out of the way last week, and too much laughing can cause some serious cramps, and that’s a horrific feature of the body. Speaking of body horror, scream all you want in space - it’s time for Alien: Romulus.

Remember that one time I did a whole lot of reboot movies as a temporary review theme? Here’s another one that I never did the original one for despite having watched it numerous times. Yeah, sure, we could be doing literally any movie this week - but I’ve been playing a lot of a certain game that involves big armored dudes killing bad guys with fancy guns, so I feel like it’s pretty fitting on top of that. Get ready for some 80’s ultra-violence that somehow spawned an entire line of toys and cartoons, the police have an upgrade and it’s name is RoboCop.
