Cliffhanger (1993)

I was going to rent a movie about water that makes people explode today, but then I went outdoors and it was cold. Since I was now cold, because outdoors had made it so, I thought to myself “I should do a cold movie tonight,” and so I did. Mind you, the aversion to watching holiday movies still flickers about, so it won’t be a seasonal cold movie - just a movie with a lot of cold. What’s colder than a mountain? Put on your dumb pants and turn up the heater, we’re about to see a real Cliffhanger.

Masters of the Universe (1987)

Fantasy is cool. Science Fiction is cool. Fantasy science fiction blended is cool. You don’t have to look far to realize this - look at Star Wars, with it’s space wizard samurais, or Thor with it’s high-tec Norse pantheon. Well, there was another like it way back when - one that perhaps might not be as remembered. One that came from toys, with a villain who was very blue - and a penchant for two-part naming that was pretty dumb, but what do we expect from a toy line? Tonight, we join He-Man and Skeletor and find the Masters of the Universe.

Johnny Mnemonic (1995)

People been making a big deal about that Cyberpunk game (maybe) coming out at some time. Or, as is more often the case, people making a big deal about it not being out. Well, the genre has been around for an amazing time - I mean, the Shadowrun RPGs have totally been a thing - and heavens knows what books are out there since I’m not a huge book intake (and most the books I did read were more typical Fantasy). So I thought we’d flip back to when our favorite guy who knows Kung Fu first jacked his brain into some fancy wetwear - tonight, we dive into Johnny Mnemonic.

Real talk, with it being Thanksgiving and having the day off I totally forgot it was Thursday, and am now rushing to get this review completed before the clock ticks over from Thursday. Look man, it happens sometimes - I could have just abandoned all hope and bailed on the review “because holiday,” but that’s not me. So I scrambled - I need something to watch! Should it tie in with the holiday, should I just pick whatever is laying around and short? Wait, didn’t that one movie come out - yes, yes it did. Tonight, it’s going to get real Mortal Kombat X in here, as we make note of our leverage and take on the fighter from across the sky with Jiu Jitsu.

Leviathan (1989)

There was a time when underwater movies were the rage. There was around four of them that I normally remember that all came out in the same relative window, and all have their own little charm in one way or another - and all have at least one actor with which I can recognize. It’s also funny, given that nowadays a lot of people would probably look at them as derivative of other movies - like “It’s Alien underwater” or “The Thing” underwater. Those people might not be entirely wrong -let’s face it, if someone had a good idea, it’s inevitable to influence others whether they intentionally are re-using the idea or it’s just a subconscious play. Well, get on you deep diving suits and prepare for the briney deep - tonight we look at Leviathan.

Can’t stop won’t stop. Last week was a family fun romp that perhaps had a few jokes some might find a bit much for kids. This week we have one that’s so brain-dead family friendly it might hurt to watch! Throw out what you think of kid actors, throw out the number of injury b-roll you collected over filming - Jackie Chan want’s everyone to tune in, for better or worse. Tonight, we look at The Spy Next Door.

The Pirates! Band of Misfits (2012)

I say it all the time - I love stop animation. We are also out of October now, so I can probably lay off the spooky stuff some as well - as not everyone has the tolerance for it as I do. So, combining these two thoughts I managed across something I could stream (and not have to set up my bluray player again) to make my life a little easier while I get over whatever Klendathu-sector bug I’ve been given from the flu shot (of which I also apologize for any noticeable quality drop in the audio read for this one). Strap on you very model pantaloons, tonight we check out The Pirates!

You probably thought I was going to skip kid-friendly movies this entire month, didn’t you? Well, surprise! The Car (1977)

One of the things i loved watching that unfortunately isn’t really going on this year is Monster Madness - a thing they do over at Cinemassacre - because it introduces plenty of different spooky themed movies that I may not have seen before, and plenty of times olden ones. Although this doesn’t particularly fit into that - it does tie into that Angry Nerd tagline of “taking you back to the past” - to be specific, we are gonna hop back to old 1977. That’s old enough to be before even I, and a movie that’s based on something we still have totally all over now - cars! To be honest and specific, more like ghost cars! Look, spooky car’s isn’t an unheard of genre, heck, we’ve even done one over in the TISR section of here where we watched some dude get terrorized by an evil car in a parking garage. This time, we check not just a car, but The Car.

Evil Dead (2013)

Said I’d do it and here we are, the remake of last week’s movie. You may remember me driving home the fact the last one was a horror movie - that’ll come in to play here. Mind you, I will say in advance this isn’t going to be for everybody - people that get a bit queasy around body-horror or violence will probably want to sit this one. For the rest of you, or perhaps those of you who just wonder what a random guy’s thoughts on the movie are, leave your “The” behind, it’s time for Evil Dead.

The Evil Dead (1981)

I had more fun doing the remake thing than i thought i would when i revisited the Clash of the Titan movies. They say one good thing deserves another, so I thought I'd do it again with another movie set that I'm surprised to see I haven't done yet after checking my log sheet - and of course, it's more October oriented because the month we are in. Put the kettle on and stay out of the woods, tonight we watch The Evil Dead.

It’s that month of the year again where it’s totally okay for anything costume or spook related in the mainstream! To start it off, and also while following in line with the last movie we watched - tonight we go classic. Well, at least a classic tale - that of one headless horseman. Of course, this time it’s a take by resident flavor-man Tim Burton, so buckle up for a little fun jaunt in the country side and try not to lose your head, tonight we look at Sleepy Hollow.

I alluded to it last week, time to pay it forward - this week we do the newer 2010 edition of Clash of the Titans. Is it better? Is it worse? Everyone’s always talking crap about remakes, and now plenty of years have passed since it’s release - and the original is just a week ago fresh in our minds. Primed those Greek mythos, it’s time to visit the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans.

Tonight we dive into the past for a little bit of Greek fun. It’s an oldie that got remade for the more modern crowd a while back - but hey, we don’t want the new one before we’ve done the old one do we? Well, put on your togas because we are going for an adventure as we check out Clash of the Titans.

Mulan (2020)

I honestly had no intent on doing a review on this. Really, I even commented on how it’s something I could have done last time - but the fact that I don’t monetize this hobby of mine at all makes it silly at best to capitalize on what’s new at the time - and in my opinion “new” is best relegated to the quick section, where it’s to-the-point what I liked and as far away as possible from spoilers as you can get without a three word “go see it” or “stay way away.” Yes, over time I’ve developed a knack for not getting too into spoilers with the plot synopsis and other comments in these full reviews, but the point stands that I hadn’t intended to do this - and then I saw it, and then I saw the general reaction to it from people I watch online and headlines - and I noticed something. In fact, I noticed something so much that I had to flop on my decision to not do this movie, because quite frankly it’s a rare occasion where I think I know what’s going on. Tonight, we talk about Mulan.

Anaconda (1997)

All song related snake jokes aside, here’s a blast from the past for you! It’s not really that old, but it’s certainly been a while since I last saw it. Yes, I could cash in on the new Bill and Ted by doing one of those, or the old Mulan or any of the other sorts of things - but what do I look like, a snake in the grass? Nah, I’m much to round to blend in with the grass - much like tonight’s critter is much to big to blend in with most places that aren’t a jungle-crowded river. Tonight, we get a look at Anaconda.

This movie came out a while ago, and I remember going “that could be fun.” I then saw it again numerous times over my Netflix sub and went “hey, isn’t that movie that I thought I should check out sometime?” and didn’t watch it. Then, during a casual conversation the other night it comes up again, and at this point I’m like alright universe, we’ll get around to watching it! Get ready for some whimsical fantasy, tonight we trip to fairy tale land and check out just how shining this Stardust is.

Did you know I haven’t done this one yet? Yeah, I know, I’m perplexed too. I could have sworn that I did it already, down to pictures chosen and everything. You could practically smell the review - and yet, in all of my different record-keeping spots show I never did it. Must be a glitch in the matrix, but we can remedy that right now. Learn the internal struggles of being a locked up girl in a world gone wrong, tonight we see the Sucker Punch.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)

A trailer came out, and people went nuts - but not really in a good way. People ripped into the effects work, to such an extent that extra work had to be done to change it. Really, that’s a somewhat interesting on it’s own right, as you really don’t get that from trailer feedback and movie studios - but it doesn’t end there. In a bizarre twist, the internet went ballistic about something and then supported it when changes were made! That is to say, usually the internet will get in an uproar about something - like “will not buy if changes aren’t made1” and then buy it anyways, whereas this time around people seemed to stick to the word and thought of “if it changes you have my money.” So it did better than anyone would have though, but how much of it is because it’s a good movie and how much is for good intentions? Tonight, we go fast with the movie version of Sonic The Hedgehog.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

Have you ever wondered if there is some form of reverse nostalgia? Like, movies that everyone remember as not great, but maybe they weren’t that bad and we all just got so set in the belief they weren’t that it’s public hive-mind on quality? As a case, who do you know that hates the first Jurassic Park? Who do you remember that really loved the other ones? For example - the only thing I really remember of the second is “dino in the city” and everyone complaining about gymnastics beating the raptor. Well, I’m thinking it’s time to go back - we’ve already revisited the first of the dino-park movies a while back and enjoyed how it held up. Will the first of the sequels hold up as well as the original, or could it be as dated as a fossil in the ground? Tonight, we revisit The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
