Troll (2022)

December 04, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Mountains Will Move

When a sequel comes out and you think “ I should watch that” and realize you didn’t do the first movie. It’s a tale as old as time, and usually it doesn’t stop me - but then I think “but how does a sequel come from that first one, did I forget something?:” Well, heck with it we’ll just go back and do the first movie this week, since in that classic stuck-on-repeat nature of my existence, I would have sword I already did but in fact did not do it on here. Get the tissues ready for the smell of hypernature, Japan may have Godzilla but Norway has a Troll.

Flow (2024)

November 27, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

A cat’s marvelous adventure

It might be a holiday here in the USA, but that doesn’t mean I get to sit around all day and play. Yeah, be thankful I won’t be pulling horrible rhyming schemes like that all review, it’d probably even annoy me! Anyways, I tried to come up with something that I could tie into either Thanksgiving or the release of the new season of Stranger Things, but after some looking around and thinking I decided to go with something from the backlog and see how it pans out. I remember seeing the trailer for it and thinking it could be a real interesting idea, but I suppose only time will tell. Water levels are rising, but tonight we just go with the Flow.

Tenet (2020)

November 20, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Time runs out.

Time for one from the back log. It’s been sitting there for a while. Honestly, it’s been sitting there for too long, and now that it’s on a service I don’t have to pay individually for the movie there’s no better time than now to get it before it disappears back into the pay-to-watch land. I’ve been told a lot of things about it -primarily to be ready to be confused. Now, I’ve seen some stuff, so let’s see just how bad it can really be. It’ll open doors good and bad, so you best remember it for later, tonight is Tenet.

Here For Blood (2023)

November 13, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Wrestle with the consequences

Fun fact, but I’m writing this up on a Wednesday instead of my normal Thursday. Why am I doing this? Because my normal night might end up being busy and I’d rather have something ready early then skipping it or getting it done late. Anyways, I had to decide on something to watch with no real plan or anything outside of being kind of tired from all this dang cold, so I thought we’d just hit a movie that i saw once already and was pretty fun - although I guess you’ll need to wrestle with waiting until the end to see if I thought it was good and fun. This time around, the babysitter fights back - tonight, we are Here for Blood.

Battle: Los Angeles (2011)

November 06, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Its not war. It survival.

A new Predator movie comes out this weekend, and I’m excited about it. Unfortunately for my review life, I already have done all those movies - including the crossovers with Alien. Including the newest animated one. Heck, I even did that Mortal Kombat meets Predator with Nic Cage in it, so what I’m saying is I kinda don’t have a whole lot left that i can really directly tie into my excitement for that movie, so I instead opted for soldiers versus aliens, which is going to just have to be close enough alright? Trip down to Cali where the surf just brought in a tied of extraterrestrial foes - this is Battle: Los Angeles.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989)

October 30, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Roll over Beethoven - it’s Freddy’s 5th!

Well, it’s the last Thursday of October, so it’s the last real easy excuse I have to keep the trend going. I mean, in fairness I am my own dude and could just keep watching them straight through just for the sake of doing it here. I wouldn’t be opposed to finishing out the chain - I just loose a little bit of the sound logic of doing it as a seasonal thing instead of continuing along the backlog of movies that I still haven’t watched yet. I guess we’ll have to see what comes, much like tonight’s little dream child. Make your baby strollers as metal as you can, the sweater is back in A Nightmare on Elm Street 5.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988)

October 23, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

You shouldn't have buried me, I'm not dead

Continuing the October of your nightmares, we move right on to the fourth entry this week. Is it good? Is it bad? Well, we officially hit the part of the franchise that is effectively a void in my memory - I might remember little tiny snippets or scenes, but until we get to New Nightmare - which we won’t this month - I can’t really say a remember a substantial amount about this and our next one. That just means it’s fun for both of us, as I go in largely like it’s a new movie! Well, a new old movie, considering it’s almost as old as me still. Either way, strap on your claws and get out your sweaters, it’s time to meet the Dream Master in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)

October 16, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Freddy’s just around the corner…

We continue our adventure through the sordid history of one Elm Street yet again this week. If you haven’t figured out that I will without remorse use October as an excuse for this kind of movie behavior, then you must be lucky or un-blessed enough to not know me well enough. This one doesn’t really have anything to do with the last one though, so you can largely kind of forget that one for this one - but this one is technically release 3 so you should probably know release 1 in order to really get the most mileage right? Or perhaps it’s only a spiritual successor? Either way, it’s time we find our franchise footing, as tonight we meet the Dream Warriors in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985)

October 09, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

The Man of Your Dreams is Back.

I could cherry pick through dozens of movies that still exist in the backlog, or the droves of new movies out that haven’t made it to the backlog yet - or I could take the easy way out. Obviously, I’m doing that because it requires no thinking on my part as long as the movie is available - which it was. Perhaps it’s the month of your dreams, or maybe the Thursdays of your nightmares as this year is cranking up to be a one after the other progression that would oddly work really well thematically. Anyways, beware the house with the bars on the windows, tonight is A Nightmare on Elm Street 2.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

October 02, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

She is the only one who can stop it... if she fails, no one survives.

There will never be a time I think when I don’t look into what movie to watch and realize I haven’t done one that seems obvious and I would have thought I already did. Combine that with the fact that it’s finally at long last October, potentially the best month of the year, and we already got an idea where this is going. When the leaves start dying, the excuses for the onslaught of horror movies rise from their graves and ya’ll get to either pump your fists in the air or collectively face palm depending on your tolerance of “scary movies.” Well, hopefully tonight’s flick aged self won’t give you too many bad dreams, tonight it’s A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Boy Kills World (2023)

September 25, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

True talk, I actually watched this movie what feels like forever ago now. Part of that forever is just because my sense of time blows, and couple it with a bad memory and who knows when something took place really - but I can guarantee that at the time of writing this it was no more than three years given it came out in 2023. Anyways, I had fun with it then, so thought it would be a good time to spread the fun to whatever friends showed up for the weekly. I hope you don’t mind a spit of violence and revenge because tonight Boy Kills World.

Hostile Takeover (2025)

September 18, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Back to action this week. Every time my one cousin shows up for movie night, i throw a Michael Jai White movie at him since I know he loves his movies. This night is no different from this. So what do I have for you? Action. Comedy. Perhaps even some romance? Strap in folks, this is a Hostile Takeover.

Mickey 17 (2025)

September 11, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

He’s dying to save mankind.

Science fiction is tonight’s name of the game. Space, future, technology, and oddly enough a lot of the same old problems. This one isn’t really getting super crazy well scored places, and I thing I might have a sneaking suspicion as to part of why that might be. Anyways, I’m geared up for cleaning out more of the backlog, and what better time then when a movie goes onto a service where I don’t need to rent or buy it? Read your contracts, tonight we look at Mickey 17.

Hell of a Summer (2023)

September 04, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Pack Your Body Bags.

The backlog won’t clear itself, so I’m working my way through some while inevitably adding more to it as well. I figure it’s been long enough since i did a horror movie - even though I guess you could say the science fiction one from last week had some horror elements in it - so it’s time of the old palette cleanser. Don’t worry, everything about the trailer tells me this one should be more of a funny homage to slashers past, so it’ll probably have something to it more than just a body count. Not that a body count is bad in a movie by any means. Anyways, to use their own tag line for the segue - pack your body bags, it’s going to be one Hell of a Summer.

Osiris (2025)

August 28, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

When dinner goes down fighting.

Tonight’s movie is hitting up some science fiction, and I always like me some space action. Props department and effects department are some of my favorite things - if in part because it’s so visual and easily identifiable as imaginative without me needing to have some crazy understanding of it like music, poetry, or body language can be. Now, going off the trailer I admit I don’t have the highest of expectations going in - but that’s usually nothing but a recipe for success when it comes to watching a movie. Get your battle buddies together and prepare to compare it to other great movies you like, tonight we check out Osiris.

The Wizard (1989)

August 21, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Making things easy tonight, one of the video compadres requested a movie tonight. Why did he choose it or where did the urge to watch it come from? I don’t ask questions when I don’t need answers - but he did assure me that this time he screened a review to at least not end up getting labeled “the guy that keeps picking the movies that he thought was harmless but had secret racism” to them. Nobody wants to be that guy. So anyways, tonight it’s a couple of nerds watching a nerd-movie about as old as I am about nerdy stuff. What nerdy stuff? Well, it ain’t no pinball, but let’s just say this kid is The Wizard.

11 Rebels (2024)

August 14, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Fight for your freedom.

Tonight’s movie did it’s best to confuse me before I even started - Amazon video, prime service that it is, decided to randomly attach a different and completely unrelated modern zombie movie box art to it, leading me to wonder why I hadn’t bookmarked that samurai movie I saw and why I put a zombie movie in there when I haven’t actively been chasing after zombie movies since Train to Busan came out what feels like forever ago. Anyways, I couldn’t the horror movie from a dogs perspective and the comity voted for some fun sword slashing action, so samurais it is. In a way, it’s kind of fitting that it played the deception card from the beginning, but I wouldn’t learn that until later on. For now, grab your ladder logos to rep another team and pull your swords out, tonight we watch 11 Rebels.

A Minecraft Movie (2025)

August 07, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Be there and be square.

I felt like a no-stress straight forward flick, and still wanted to get through some of my rather extensive back log of movies that I keep meaning to see and just haven’t yet so tonight’s was relatively easy. Part of that is because it was free on Hulu - and if you can believe it, I didn’t even notice that the entire length of the movie there was a HBO watermark at the bottom of the screen until I had to get pictures for the review tonight. Goes to show how easy it is to miss details when you are just letting the movie take you for a ride aye? Anyways, think inside the box and return to the mines, tonight we watch A Minecraft Movie.

Laserhawk (1997)

July 31, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

The war began 250 million years ago...

I hadn’t planned on so many technical issues tonight, but if ever there was a silver lining it’s that it for once isn’t Spectrum’s fault as much as it is the power company not being able to keep a steady flow of juice flowing through their lines at the measliest inconvenience to one of the lines. Anyways, I’ve done a lot of newer movies lately, and I feel like that’s making me go soft (not really, I just felt like I should do an older movie). I’ve also done a bunch of horror lately because I’ve been getting away with it with a rash of solo watchings (or at least solo start watchings), so I though I’d give a little breath of fresh air to the non horror folks and combine my two targets: older, and not horror focused. What did I find? Space, bad CG, and Mark Hamill. No, not Wing Commander (although that would have been a good choice thinking about it) - a different one. Don’t confuse it with the awesome synth band, tonight we watch Laserhawk.

Until Dawn (2025)

July 24, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

Can you stay alive?

My regularly scheduled plans were thrown into turmoil when i spent a good 3 hours after working doing farm work today, so by the time I got in to do a movie it was very much a “click the first movie I don’t have to buy and get it done” kind of night. How did that end up with tonight’s movie you might ask? Well, I’m guessing it might have something to do with it not doing the greatest in the box office leading to such a seemingly early release to Netflix - or perhaps I just lost all sense of time and it’s actually been around long enough it really shoudl be put out on there. One could only hope I’ve not struck a ground hog situation myself, but at least the only thing I need to do is sleep instead of survive Until Dawn.
