Painted Skin: The Resurrection (2012)
The Asian Mythical Blockbuster of the Year
- A sequel to a movie (found out afterwards) that can be enjoyed by itself
- Mythology of any kind is a draw
- Asian mythology (demons in particular) seem quite interesting
- Fight scenes are wonderfully choreographed
- Romance plot brings to the fore-front things such as looks, place in society, and irony
- Costumes range from beautiful to barbaric
- Well acted
- A rather well done twist or two
- Reading when pretty things are on screen. They can also talk faster than I can read at points, and I'm pretty sure I missed the end of a sentence or two
- Romance plot can be pretty heavy handed, and I could complain about the "all guys care about is looks," stereotype, but I won't
- Some of the characters (not actors) come off as a bit dense
- Making me care about a bird when I don't like birds
Opinion
The movie handled romance well enough that I can see a good number of people enjoying it. It's pretty even when it heavy-hands it's stereotyping, and I might have had more fun with the subplot characters than the main characters, it's worth a rent.
