Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)

April 29, 2014  /  Ken Rupracht

It will take what you love most

  • Even, creepy feel spread throughout the film
  • Well done acting jobs
  • Attempted humor to try and lighten the mood from constant fear
  • Mixes in some camera-perspective shots to freshen things up

  • Plot is more convoluted and confusing than it's predecessor
  • Humor isn't all that effective at what it attempts to do most the time
  • Feels more like a railed experience - some of the suspense is lost
Opinion

A worthwhile sequel, but not quite as frightening as the first. It's interesting to have everything from the first explained, and can mostly function as a standalone experience, but the new mechanics of how the "further" works can get pretty confusing. Still, if you want that shiver down your spine for an entire movie this one should be a great choice.
