Thale (2012)
In a cellar, dark and deep, I lay my dearest down to sleep; A secret they would like to keep.
- Folklore.
- Good acting.
- Bit of a mystery set up.
- Fiddle, Cello appearances in score.
- Somewhat slow paced.
- Bit of nudity (for those against that).
- Subtitled (for those that don't want to read).
- Barfing scene.
I like watching movies that are based off of folklore, because I find it interesting to see what kind of beliefs in creatures or otherwise supernatural type elements existed around the world - so this had a foot in the door before I started watching. The movie is a slow burner, and I have no doubts that would turn some off to it, and it's not really so heavy on the horror elements either. There's a few tense moments and spooky creature scenes in there, but overall it feels much more like a fantasy mystery than it does a "leave the lights on" sort of film. Main three actors do a good job, considering only two talk and I can't understand the language they do talk anyways, so as long as you don't mind anything mentioned above then it's not a bad choice of flick.
