Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Only One Will Rule.
Increased number of Kaiju fights.
On-screen monster count, new and old.
Little throwbacks to the franchise, from themes to items to character nods, all of which don’t impact the enjoyment for those who aren’t familiar.
The theme music! So nice!
Effects work looks great still.
Human characters more easy to enjoy or attach to.
.Still plenty of cuts during fights, even if not to the obnoxious extent of ignoring and not showing it at all (like in 2014). Didn’t bother me, but some seem to complain about not having a totally focused on the fight scene without interruptions.
Human enemies aren’t the greatest. They work, and by far aren’t the most cornball thing to come out of Godzilla - and doesn’t contradict itself as it goes.
Plenty of scenes in darker lighting - though it did not really effect quality in my opinion.
There are a lot of complaints out there from various critics, but I don’t really feel most hold up under my own enjoyment. Opinions are subjective, so they are entitled to their opinions as much as I am to mine - and mine largely consists of this being exactly what I wanted out of 2014. It has some character depth to it, it has a plot line that’s not horrible and facilitates the plot, and it improves upon most any complaints I had watching the 2014 one. If you don’t like Godzilla to begin with, perhaps it won’t do much for you - but if you like it then you should be in good hands. Will end up buying this when it comes out, and most likely buy that soundtrack if I can find it too.
