Predator: Badlands (2025)

November 15, 2025  /  Ken Rupracht

First Hunt. Last Chance.

  • Plenty of new shiny tech.

  • Effects work all looks real good.

  • Predator that’s the actual main character and not just the villain.

  • Plenty of callbacks and references to other parts of the franchise.

  • Still does something different (for Predator).

  • More successful at it’s humor than The Predator.

  • Characters full on talking Yautja.

  • Character growth.

  • Well acted.

  • See new plants and creatures, and kill a bunch of them.

  • I can see where the main characters might annoy some folks because of constant banter or headstrong self.

  • A lot of the cool tech gets taken from the movie pretty early on.

  • I could see where folks would feel like it’s a little “Disney-fied” thanks to some Fast and the Furious levels of talking about family (or clan).

  • The mention of “wolf” in regards to predator triggered my AvP:R ptsd.

  • I feel like we still haven’t gotten the mouth mandibles back to Predator 1/2 goodness.

  • It isn’t out for me to purchase yet.

Thoughts

I had a lot of fun here. It reminds me of a few different other movies that I also like - I jokingly called it “Predator and Grogu”, but the best possible subtitle for this movie is “Predator Badlands: Why the MPAA is stupid.” There is more body count in this movie then half the franchise - and they aren’t exactly all non-graphic, but stupid MPAA doesn’t care as long as the blood ain’t red. Also feel a little Turbokid in here thanks to the main character bot seen in the trailers. It’s got a lot of good action (especially towards the end), it’s got a bit of a moral core (that isn’t exactly the most original and unheard of moral core), it has a few twists and turns, and it’s got plenty of situations that are funny intentionally (I’m pretty sure intentionally). Acting is done well, plenty of good effects work (even if our main predator kind of walks with a buff guy arm syndrome), and fancy horned predator outfit from the trailer is also pretty baller.
