Good Boy (2025)
Trust his instincts.
Made me jump
Adorable dog
Interesting take by showing everything from the dog’s perspective
Good at atmospheric and tension
Solid core for the thinking person
Double edged sword of not fully explaining itself, respects the watchers intelligence
Spoiler(?) - Lead dog doesn’t die
Double edged sword of not fully explaining itself, can leave some feeling confused
Dog-based tension is much more tense to watch than the average humans in trouble scenarios
Spoiler(?) - There is a dead dog
It’s been a while since a movie made me jump - leave it to the one told from a dog’s perspective to be the one to do it. Contrary to how that sounds, it’s not actually slog-full of jump scares, and most of the tension is similar to the finer points of something like Paranormal Activity (except things are actually happening frequently). Not entirely positive if the paranormal elements are actually paranormal or supposed to be more of a symbolic representation of things going on with the human character. Surprisingly good acting out of the adorable lead doggy, which probably helps sell a lot of the terror. Not the fastest moving movie, but it’s a bit of a breath of fresh air with it’s limited violence, somewhat “simple” effects work and well done framing and sound.
