Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar (2023)

August 08, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

Only a god can kill another god.

I’ve had a week. Hard drive troubles have left me currently devoid of most the software I use for projects, and all the backups of images and audio files I’ve put on this site for the last 8 years. On the one hand, it really lets you reflect on just how long you’ve been doing something when you see how much that is, but then the foot comes up and kicks you in the guts when the possibility of it being gone forever exists. That being the case and left to my own devices to choose a movie tonight, I had thought about going the horror route I’ve visited many a time - some aggravating deplorable human race getting wiped out by what should be seen as a evil entity but instead almost comes off as a hero? Great for bad moods! Instead, I cam across a name that I remember and haven’t seen in a long time - Metalocalypse. We all need a little song in our lives, and sometimes that song is absolutely brutal and dark. Ready your corpse paint and grab a towel, tonight we jam with Metalocalpyse: Army of the Doomstar.

Land of Bad (2024)

August 01, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

No Man Left Behind.

Sometimes you just can’t substitute some nice military action when it comes to movie. LIke-wise, sometimes the names aren’t always the best - a lot of them go that tati-cool route and like to choose a military term to use. Now, although there’s always a spot in my heart for one-liner ridden machismo-fest olden classic action movies, when you want a dawdle of tension, you go military style. Tonight’s movie starts like every movie of the type - but very quickly our operators will find themselves in the Land of Bad.

Virus (1999)

July 25, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

Life on earth is in for a shock.

Well, I had everything planned out and then something went wrong and the regularly scheduled post - the only one I’ve done at the start of the week so it’d be ready to post when I was off on vacation - did in fact not post. To make up for it, I posted that one yesterday, and now you get this weeks movie - which I figured I’d flow with the convention I went to, which was all about a virus that effects machines and people and stuff and the year 1999. How could I tie into that? How about a movie about alien electricity that takes over technology and starts making terminators that was released in the year 1999? Yeah, I’m a little surprised I never hit this one either, tonight we check out Virus.

Tag (2015)

July 24, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

All high school girls out there: You are a little too obnoxious so we decided to reduce your numbers.

So I’m out of town the day of this getting posted - going up north(er) for a convention, but that doesn’t stop me from trying to hold to my one movie a week minimum schedule that I’ve upheld for over 14 years now. I know not everyone gets why I’d go through the extra effort - I mean, I don’t really earn anything out of it - but at the same time, that just makes it more fitting for this weeks chosen movie. See, I saw this thing a long time ago, and it holds the title of being the only movie that took me longer to explain what happened in the first ten minutes of the movie than it would if you just watched it - and both methods would probably just leave you totally confused. Ha, yeah, a this should be a interesting one - a little something special to make up for the pre-written report yeah? Don’t get it confused by that more modern movie about he popular kids game or you are in for a real shocking time, tonight we watch Tag.

Street Fighter (1994)

July 11, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

The ultimate battle.

Games haven’t gotten the best rap for being live action movies in the past. There’s a few that are great examples of it, including tonights. Now, I would like to point out that sometimes a movie can be a bad adaptation but still really enjoyable. Some movies, like Jurassic Park, might even be more enjoyable then the book you know? So, as a person whose played a bunch of games, maybe this time around I can have a little extra zazz to throw on the write up since I can point stuff out. Then again, it might be a case where it’s a better scenario for me to ask “why bother?” Check out the movie for a game that my wake up alarm is from, let’s get ready for Street Fighter.

Independence Day (1996)

July 04, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

We've always believed we weren't alone. On July 4th, we'll wish we were.

Would you believe me if I said that there’s a perfect movie for tonight, and yet I haven’t done it? Of course you would, I’ve not done obvious movies a ton and heaven knows how many movies I thought I did and never actually did. In this case, I’ve even done the sequel and not the original, so just further shame to the pile I suppose. Anyways, let’s correct it and go back to a classic I’ve seen dozens of times already but wouldn’t mind watching again, because today is Independence Day.

Memories (1995)

June 27, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

In the future, present or imaginary world, Memories reveal themselves, like roses' petals opening.

You know what I really, really haven’t done in a while? An anthology flick. So tonight I bag two windows with a single rock, as one of my buddies has also been wanting to watch more anime. Admittedly, I’ve seent his before - that much isn’t entirely a surprise - but I also really only recall two parts of it from memory - and one part is cheating because it was attached to a music video that i really liked that caused me to seek out the movie when that became a thing that could be done - that’s the power of those home made music videos back before the slightest amount of audio on something like youtube would get a video flagged and taken down forever. Anyways, as much fun as it is to reminisce, we should probably go and take a look at a different set of Memories.

Beetlejuice (1988)

June 20, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

Say it one… Say it twice… But we dare you two say it THREE TIMES!

There is a never ending quantity of movies that I’ve watched where I swear I at some point already dealt with them on this website as a review - only to find out that I, across the 600 or so ones I have done, in fact have not done so. It’s been a bit of a theme for the last two years now, and honestly it’s starting to make me feel a bit senile. Well, my brain and memory might think I’m as old as dirt, but I’m not dead yet -unlike some of our characters tonight. Let’s take a trip back in time to that movie that spawned a cartoon for a character that really should not have been pitched to kids - tonight we hang with Beetlejuice.

Day Shift (2022)

June 13, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

Some jobs really go for the throat.

The night has finally come. Tonight we get a fiesty little feast out on the coast, filled with glamor and blue collar how to. Vampires in a new light, if you would. Sure, we’ve seen countless take on vampires, even out in ole California, but this one’s up to date and promises fun, so buckle up your seat belt. Grab your pickup and get ready for some work, tonight we check out Day Shift.

The Fall Guy (2024)

June 06, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

Fall Hard

The movie that waits for the full crew continues to wait for the full crews, so I decided to pocket a movie that looked like a lot of fun in the trailers. It’s another one of those ones where every time I see something about it’s always some kind of complaint about this or that, and I don’t know - I’m just not buying that this movie isn’t going to be fun from the trailer. Maybe it’s because I’m not familiar with the original show, so I just don’t have all the baggage of past plots and traits to go along with - but no matter how you cut it you show me a movie about a stunt actor getting into shenanigans I think i’ve probably enjoying myself. I hope you aren’t afraid of heights, tonight’s movie is The Fall Guy.

Atlas (2024)

May 30, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

The future of humanity is in her hands.

Got a fresh new one for everyone tonight. This year’s charity stuff is themed around mechs - you know, those wonderful giant robots piloted by folks made famous by such known franchises as Gundam and Mechwarrior. Given that fact, it only makes sense to me that when a new giant robot movie comes out I have to get up on it quick. This one seems to be a bit of a wiffle-waffle at the bat when it comes to reviews, so let’s see what I think about it. Tonight we find out if the world is on it’s shoulders, tonight we watch Atlas.

Sukiyaki Western Django (2007)

May 23, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

An epic tale of blood, lust and greed.

Tonight’s entry is an interesting one. All of my primary targets for tonight ended up having to get rescheduled, so I went instead to an older one that’s new for folks watching with me. Do you like westerns? Do you like Japanese feuding sides flicks? Did you ever think about how similar the two movies could be when that mysterious stranger comes rolling in? Get ready for something I’m sure a person out there will probably get a little bent out of shape about - tonight we watch Sukiyaki Western Django.

Freelance (2023)

May 16, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

Retirement didn’t suit him

Another week, another slew of trailers. Another slew of trailers, another victor. On this fine night the winner looks to be one part comedy , one part action so we’ve got plenty of promise based on trailer alone. Oh yeah, and that guy nobody can see is in there to - yeah, you know, that Cena fella! Second guess your life choices, it’s time to go Freelance.

Arcadian (2024)

May 09, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

Beware of the Dark.

One of the options from last week reappears as this weeks movie. A splash of horror thriller, a little mysterious monster, and everyone’s cherry on top Nicolas Cage. Trailers make it seem just as much a family bonding story as a monster flick - and I’ve never said it’s taken much to win me over when it comes to watching a movie. Board the windows and lock the doors before it gets dark, tonight we check out Arcadian.

City Hunter (2024)

May 02, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

Don’t you know who he is?

As our typical fashion goes, I put together a collection of trailers and put them out to the crowd, and the crowd has chosen. Action comedy was the winner for tonight, and it’s a name that I recognize. No, not because of the source material - because there was a Jackie Chan movie of the same name that happened to include a scene where characters were getting transformed into Street FIghter characters and it was just as wacky as it sounds. How will this much newer version hold up? One can find out only one way really - time to take a stroll with City Hunter.

Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993)

April 25, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

Just Deux it.

We did the first one last week, and I talked up the second as being one I enjoyed more, so it’s only fair we do it this week. The crew was back in town and nobody can say no to a good comedy so it was a pretty easy shoe in. Ramp up the antics, change the movie target focus, and go bust some heads - you got to set your goals high! Get back in the saddle and avoid weaponized chickens, tonight we hit Hot Shots! Part Duex.

Hot Shots! (1991)

April 18, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

The mother of all movies!

Comedy night! Get your rose tinted glasses out of their keepsake bag, tonight we are gonna drop back a bit in time to one of those comedies whose sole existence is really to make fun of other movies. and all the tropes and stereotypes in them, while fitting in that sort of thing itself. You might argue if you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all - and honestly you probably aren’t really wrong - but we have fun being redundant anyways! It was right around when such wonderful flicks like Top Gun were all the rage, but don’t call it Shirley -tonight we sit back in our takeoff positions for Hot Shots!

Eye for an Eye: The Blind Swordsman (2002)

April 11, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

I may have mentioned it at some point, but I’ve been watching a lot of a “tv” show that follows a character from some Detective Dee movies I watched a while back and really enjoyed. You can actually find those reviews on here somewhere, if memory serves me right. Well, anyways, what that means for tonight is I’ve been on a big Chinese action kick, so when I see something talking about a sword fighter who can’t see in the title, obviously I’m going to pick it to watch. So low and behold, here we are! We’ve heard plenty of a blind Japanese swordsman, but tonight we swim over to China to check out Eye for an Eye.

Sixty Minutes (2024)

April 04, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

Desperate not to lose custody, a mixed martial arts fighter makes dangerous enemies when he ditches a matchup to race to his daughter's birthday party

Chase movies are always fun, but not always in cars. There’s something about a movie taking you on an entire trip across it’s span (even if it’s not trying to be a one cut thing) that has a charm. It’s enticing right? Is the person going to make it? What challenges will they face across the path? Well, tonight we’ll take a peak at how Germany does one thanks to our paid for friend Netflix - he’s in a race against time, and that time is Sixty Minutes.

There's Something in the Barn (2023)

March 28, 2024  /  Ken Rupracht

This Christmas ... you must respect your elf.

L:et us pivot from comedy to horror comedy. I’ll soften the blow by making it holiday themed for you - even if that holiday has already gone long by because it’s Christmas, but you know. Either way, what it comes down to is I saw a headline that compared it to Gremlins, and I really enjoyed that movie so why wouldn’t I give this a shot right? Tonight we tune into an American family in Norway, better sleep with your light on because There’s Something in the Barn.
