Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003)

May 13, 2014  /  Ken Rupracht

Here comes the bride

  • How the movie is shot keeps getting altered, keeping one on their toes and amused (such as suddenly switching to Black and White)
  • Cast does a wonderful job of acting
  • Introduces briefly the start of the story, then jumps further in to draw the watcher in
  • Action scenes are exciting to watch
  • As far as revenge movies go, keeps a nice even pace going
  • Use of soundtrack
  • Over-done violence (Tarantino classic)

  • The jump to showdown 2 ruins the sense of suspense as to if Bride will survive showdown 1
  • Relatively self contained movie, but obvious follow up causes no real resolution to the main story
  • Backstory as to why events have occurred are left purposefully blank/foggy for later
Opinion

One of Tarantino's best movies to date (IMO), replacing the classic cheese of Dusk till Dawn and elaborate plot of Pulp Fiction with interesting film techniques and style changes (suddenly, the movie is animated), a good cast, and the action scenes that keep everything lively as we find ourselves wanting more of the story. Quite violent (as are most of Tarantino flicks), so if that is an issue you may want to pass.
