Blade II (2002)

April 21, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

In A World Beyond The One We Know, The Forces Of Darkness Fear One Man...Blade!

Of course, with the smashing success - or good enough success, it’s hard to tell with movie companies sometimes - of the first Blade, a second was inevitable. Perhaps surprising to a modern audience would be the fact that it didn’t water down the R rating, which is a thing that does kind of happen a lot of times when things get put out these days in an effort to broaden the potential net for catching wider audiences and in turn more moolah. Anyways, the last set us a pretty good base line to judge our anticipations for this one - there’s gonna be blood, there’s gonna be some blood suckers, and there’s gonna be Blade II.

Blade (1998)

April 14, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

The power of an immortal. The soul of a human. The heart of a hero.

When it comes to movies, we all have a drastic tendency of two things - forgetting (or not knowing) of past movies, and being super-hard on older movies effects work. In regards to that first one, the modern “For the first time ever” branch of things gets evoked quite a bit - “Black Panther, the first black superhero” and so forth. Well, tonight, we’ll go back to what a slightly older generation recognizes as “the first really good superhero movie” particularly with (but really needing the clarification) a black lead. Turn on the bleed-o-vision, tonight we look at Blade.

The Equalizer (2014)

April 07, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

What do you see when you look at me?

Ever look at person and think to yourself, “I wonder what their story is?” Are they just someone looking for a good time, maybe just trying to get by? Perhaps they used to kill people for a living, but retired to the civilian life and and trying to peace out for the rest of their days? Perhaps they were super famous and now are trying to be incognito? The point is you just just never can tell - and in tonight’s case, one should be especially careful about their interactions with books whose cover you can’t judge. When the balance tips, you might just find yourself in the path of The Equalizer.

Warrior (2011)

March 31, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Family is worth fighting for.

Tonight we get some different sort of action then the last week. Here, we go for a far more story-based drama-laden tale, where the action is almost just a side effect than the main course. Yes, I know I’m usually the first one to run away from a drama movie because I like to keep it nice, simple, and full of explosive fists and bombs - but sometimes it’s only right to treat people to a little storytelling you know? On that note, chain up your octagons, tonight we watch Warrior.

The Raid: Redemption (2011)

March 24, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

1 Ruthless Crime Lord, 20 Elite Cops, 30 Floors of Hell

Tonight’s video is brought to you by Raid: Shadow Legends! Just kidding, it has nothing to do with that at all honestly, outside of both starting with Raid and having a sub-section title after it. Nah, tonight I promised my audience something with cops, drug dealers, and absolutely brutal hits. Time to escape the bounds of American action and the relative safety of it’s job requirements - no, tonight you get to wonder just how many hospital bills were involved in those hits. Wear your uniform with pride, tonight is The Raid: Redemption.

Love and Monsters (2020)

March 17, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

You don’t need to settle, even in the apocalypse.

I was sick last week, so I missed doing the review. If anyone ever needed proof that I do these on a weekly basis, that little gap between last one and now should be proof. I’ve got a project in the works to get out another TISR episode as well, but I thought I’d go back and check something that I haven’t gotten around to while I’m making use of a Paramount Plus membership before it runs out - something that’s a little bit more my roots but also a bit of something I normally stay away from. Tonight, we check out Love and Monsters.

Scream (2022)

March 03, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

It’s always someone you know.

When I realized that tonight’s movie was out for streaming, you can bet your booty that I jumped right up on getting it suggested as the weekly movie to the cousin I’ve been watching the movies with lately. Considering how much he’s enjoyed the rest of the franchise, he was more than willing to jump in there. Now pulled into the trend of modern reboot-sequels, new and old once again clash in a familiar but not too similar train ride, and much like for ice cream or the stabbing, we all Scream.

Redline (2009)

February 24, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Race for your life.

I’ve got another charity stream coming up soon and I’ve chosen a popular-amongst the friend group destruction derby game for it. You might wonder where that becomes relevant for the movie tonight - well, let’s just say I found an excuse to rewatch an old anime and show it off to some friends, because I have the need for speed and I don’t think my car is going to make it. Push it hard, push it fast, tonight we push for the Redline.

Rumble in the Bronx (1996)

February 17, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

No Fear. No Stuntman. No Equal

I had some Chinese food for dinner tonight, so I thought I’d celebrate the occasion with a little of what has to be the most well-known Chinese man I know - Jackie Chan! Turns out the movie buddy also hasn’t seen this one, and since I find it to be one of the classics it only seems fair that I force him to watch it on this occasion! Yeah, I can be a real drag sometimes, right? Ha ha, hide the warriors and get ready for some injuries, tonight we Rumble in the Bronx.

My Bloody Valentine (1981)

February 10, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Someone’s bound to lose their heart.

It’s the season of lovin, and I’m looking to fall back on old ways. Sure, we’ve done some horror stuff lately with the Scream franchise, but we need to go further down the dark hole of less refinement. It’s a dirty job, full of often goofy things regardless of intent. Tonight, cupid’s calling for a homicide, and you can be My Bloody Valentine.

Kate (2021)

February 03, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

There’s no time for mercy.

It’s getting close to the season of loving, and instead of doing something logical like a rom-com or something like that I’m doing what I do best - unrelated fun! Beating out rival choices, and even movies of a very similar design - tonight we head on over to Japan for some filthy western action. Tonight, we get to thank John Wick once again for causing so many fun genre spins as we say hello to Kate.

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002)

January 27, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

A laugh-out-loud funny spoof!

I’m tapping into some old stuff tonight. I mean, old in a relative sense - this thing came out back when I was in school still, and there was plenty of laughs to be had about it. Tonight, I introduce someone else to it and see how well it holds up in entertainment value. Spoiler: it’s probably not going to hold up the best. Get your ADR ready and open that mouth, tonight is Kung Pow: Enter the Fist.

Resident Evil: Vendetta (2017)

January 20, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

This is a story of bloodshed, a story of revenge.

As I pondered what to watch for tonight’s movie, I had a momentary stroke of utter genius. My cousin, whose been joining me for these frequent movie viewings as of late and doing a stellar job of picking out some good stuff to watch within the constraints of “I can’t have already done a write up on it” has done other things with me besides just watching movies, the most note-worthy I would think is our playthrough of Resident Evil 6 - a game that has long been on the “I should have played it and never did” list for me. So it went up on sale, and we have had some jolly good co-op times playing it. Of note, it’s interesting in the dynamic of what is probably my favorite character - Leon - having a chapter as well as his favorite - Chris. So, back to the tie in as to what we are watching, I thought I would give him one heck of a what-it-could-be Resident Evil movie by going not to the Anderson series that could care less about it’s source, but instead to the ones right out of Capcom. Tonight, we look at Resident Evil: Vendetta.

Mortal Kombat (2021)

January 13, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

This will be my third time watching tonight’s movie. That’s not bad at all considering how it released last year. I feel like stating that is sort of tipping my hand - I mean, how often do you repeat-view something that you hate? Well, Be that as it may, you still probably want to know all the gritty bone-breaking details, so lets get right to fight itme and do your best imitation screams, it’s time for Mortal Kombat.

Commando (1985)

January 06, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

It’s a brand new year, and a brand new everything - if you are one of those folks that feel like a new number makes things somehow entirely different in the universe for some reason. Here in my world, I like to bring in something I like to start of the year - of course, the non-repeats of the review format really hurts my normal desire - which is usually to rewatch the same movies repeatedly - but the good part is we get to do something new that’s also old to bring in the new year - old Arnold movie I’ve watched numerous times, and yet much like most the movies from last year somehow didn’t already do a review on here at all. Oh well, strap on your love of one-liners and oil up those muscles, tonight we visit Commando.

Collateral (2004)

December 30, 2021  /  Ken Rupracht

You know that classic movie setting where you have a professional somebody - killer, assassin, hitman, CIA operative, spy, gun-toting powerhouse - and then a not-killing type professional worker that end up being in a situation? Tonight, we’ve got one of those things tonight - one that’s old enough it uses Jason Statham for all of about ten seconds and then you never see him again. Yeah, roll back the way-when to a time of taxis and criminal intrigue, tonight we go check out Collateral.

Jingle All the Way (1996)

December 23, 2021  /  Ken Rupracht

Over the years it’s been pretty obvious that I’m not a big Christmas movie kind of person. At the very least, my string of “Holiday-adjacent” movies stands out as making that point for me - but I’ve got that secret first-hand knowledge of what I’m thinking so maybe it’s not as externally apparent. There’s something about the particular breed of cheer from holiday-centric movies that just tends to make me loose a bit of interest, but for today’s movie I think we’ll throw down some spirit with a pair of good tidings - one of the greatest action stars of all time and my favorite comedian of all time, teaming up to not team up and make a movie about the Christmas that almost wasn’t. Get your reindeer drunk, tonight we Jingle All the Way.

Guyver: Dark Hero (1994)

December 16, 2021  /  Ken Rupracht

A game I’ve played recently just put out a long awaited story update, and to celebrate I’m dropping into something I have technically watched before, but never really reviewed. I’m also skipping over the first one of them, because technically I like this one more despite Mark Hamill being in the first one. Originally, I honestly felt a lot of the game might have been slightly inspired by it, although in the end it did go a different way and do it’s own things. So today, grab you fancy glasses and grab some popcorn, we are going to check out Guyver: Dark Hero.

xXx (2002)

December 09, 2021  /  Ken Rupracht

You might think this review is an odd choice - but hey, nothing should see odd at this point with the wide breadth of stuff I end up watching. We’ve got some action, we’ve got some babes, we’ve got some young’n Diesel and a soundtrack that you’ll reminisce about if your old enough. I apologize to all the people running we searches now, tonight’s movie is xXx.

Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)

December 02, 2021  /  Ken Rupracht

By the time this review comes out, I’ll be somewhere else catching a little R and R away from the snow and cold. Considering where this vacation is taking place, I’ve opted to go with a somewhat-fitting movie - less so for anything to do with the movie and more with whose behind it. Might as well leave a little magic behind when visiting the “most magical place on earth” am I right? Tonight, we find out why dragons are all the rage with Raya and the Last Dragon.
